The Anxious City Festival has been a unique event in Rotterdam that explores the question of stress and the city through the lens of architecture, design, science and art. As an increasing part of urban populations is suffering from burn-out, stress and anxiety disorders, one may wonder in which way modern lifestyles and urban environments affect our bodies, our emotions or even aggravate existing mental health issues. To reflect on these topics, The Anxious City Festival was set up as platform where citizens, researchers and practitioners from different fields were able to come together for 3 days and share innovative approaches to better understand the relation between urban stress, space design and sensory perception.
