WORKSHOP

Saturday 01 September

Being in The City,

walk lead by artist Ludmila Rodrigues

Ludmila’s workshop explores the feeling of being in urban space — spatial perception of the material world, including the built environment and its fluxes. The workshop also touches upon the feeling of being in public — the social relations involved in being in the city, body language and power structures. All exercises build up on each other, unfolding internal dimensions (embodied awareness) and external dimensions (social awareness, or our relations to the others).

By exploring these dimensions, participants will develop conscious modes of navigation, enhancing their sensitivity and sense of belonging. The workshop will take place outdoors, in a walkable distance from Fair Design Plein.

Ludmila Rodrigues is an artist and designer operating in the intersection between theater and architecture. She researches ways of engaging the audience to interact with the built environment. Her works materialize in playful situations and devices that trigger social collaboration. In these situations, spontaneous choreographies may emerge, and participants develop a sense of agency, where everyone becomes an actor. Through these experiments, the artist hopes that human perception is enhanced and communication between humankind and its surroundings may improved.

Born in Rio de Janeiro, where she graduated in Architecture and Urban Planing, Rodrigues moved to the Netherlands in 2009 to study at the Artscience Interfaculty (KABK/KC, The Hague).

She has worked as artist, as well as set and costume designer, and guest lecturer at KABK and ArtEZ. Rodrigues has presented works in TodaysArt Festival (The Hague), Space Media Festival (Taipei), Cinekid (Amsterdam), PlayfulArts (Den Bosch), Modern Body Festival (The Hague), MARRES (Maastricht), Rijksmuseum (The Deepest Sense Symposium, Amsterdam), Schema Art Museum (Cheongju, South Korea), La Briqueterie (‘The Conscious Body II’ Residency, Paris), Korzo Theater and Stroom Den Haag (The Hague, 2012). Recently she has completed a Master in Fine Arts by the Art Sense(s) Lab, PXL-MAD School of Arts, Hasselt (Belgium) and was nominated for the Wanatoe Price.
